Student Placements, Internships, & Volunteer Opportunities

Come Experience the Wonders of Kenya in a Way That’s Mutually Beneficial and Reciprocal…

In addition to our programmatic and grant-making work that advances human-animal coexistence, we also facilitate a range of experiential exchanges seeking to plant seeds of curiosity and create opportunities for reciprocity between North America and Africa. Our Conservation Center, located at the base of Mt Kasighau in the remarkable Tsavo ecosystem, acts as both a community hub for innovative human-animal coexistence initiatives in Kenya, as well as an eco-retreat and knowledge exchange site. We regularly have the pleasure of hosting students, researchers, interns, and professionals from the US and around the world, giving them a unique opportunity to learn firsthand from the wealth of practical knowledge and Indigenous wisdom African perspectives have to offer on conservation challenges and how to harmoniously coexist with the non-human world, whilst experiencing the beauty and serenity of its location.

All proceeds from these exchanges are reinvested into the Center's conservation and human-animal coexistence projects, and the Center’s operations are made possible through these mutually beneficial exchanges of knowledge and resources between North America and Africa.

 FAQs

  • Both. Our Center can comfortably accommodate up to 14 people at a time, but we also welcome individuals who are simply seeking an alternative way to travel or who might be looking for a peaceful, restorative place to spend some time. We encourage all with an interest in visiting to get in touch with us directly so we can have a conversation and develop a placement program tailored to your unique needs.

  • We do not facilitate these exchanges and placements with the goal of making a profit. Therefore, the only costs we charge are the bare minimum required to cover your food, transport, and wifi throughout the course of your stay. Nightly rates start at $35 USD per person for volunteers, and $50 per person for non-volunteers.

For accredited student placements or internships, we charge a marginal fee to cover the time and professional expertise/capacities required to facilitate this learning experience, which is determined based on the duration and scope of the educational program.

  • The Center is remote, but it is easily reachable by train from Nairobi. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you simply catch either a night or morning train from Nairobi to Voi (approximately 4 hours duration). Once you reach Voi Kahindi, the Center’s director, will be there waiting to pick you up and drive you to the Center (approximately 1 hours drive). Voi has excellent hospitals and medical facilities, as well as shops, restaurants, and places to get whatever necessities you may require.

  • Yes. The wifi at the Center is excellent. Our CEO hosts working/Board retreats here, and we encourage remote workers who may be looking to get out of their everyday, ordinary environs to come stay and see how remarkably productive you can be amidst the peace and non-distraction this place has to offer.
