Seeds & Possibilities

(Grant-Making & Advocacy)

Central to our mission is to catalyze and help nurture possibilities for human-animal coexistence that wouldn’t otherwise come to fruition. To that end, we offer small grants ranging from $1,000-$10,000 USD to innovative initiatives unifying the well-being of people, animals, and the environment. If you have an idea for how to promote harmonious coexistence in your community, please review our grant guidelines and then follow the steps to the right to determine if we may be able to help support your initiative:

  • Tangible progress towards positive human-animal coexistence begins with an idea. Just like our elephants and sunflowers coexistence project, everything has to begin somewhere. If you have a creative idea for how to innovatively promote coexistence and are ready to take the courageous next step to try to turn it into a reality, we want to hear from you.

  • Turn your dream of positive coexistence into a narrative that others can understand and get involved in supporting. Summarize your idea in two pages, with a clear description of the following: unique contribution & impact, objectives, implementation, timeline, and budget. Once you have this, continue.

  • Once you have developed a compelling proposal for your idea, we encourage you to share it with us to see if you might be eligible to receive one of our human-animal coexistence grants, ranging from $1,000-10,000 USD. If it's possible for us to help you grow your initiative, we will do so.

Our Approach to Grant-Making

Our uniquely structured regranting program for innovative human-animal coexistence initiatives is intended to have the effect of opening up a competitive marketplace of individuals and organizations doing excellent work unifying the inseparable welfare of humans, animals, and the environment in Africa, thereby allowing AHAC to set in motion initiatives and intentions that wouldn’t otherwise have the means to get off the ground. Furthermore, and significantly, through an appointed regranting advisory committee, AHAC will serve as a vehicle to meaningfully include African/regional experts and perspectives in the grant-making decisions shaping the future of animal advocacy on the continent—a space which is currently dominated by western and Eurocentric philanthropic perspectives. In this way, AHAC’s regranting process will simultaneously serve as a means of facilitating mutually beneficial exchanges of knowledge and ways of thinking on how to harness the potential of philanthropy to solve human-animal coexistence issues.

*Our current regranting advisory committee members are Tozie Zokufa, Dr Margaret Mwakima, Jim Karani, Kahindi Lekalhaile, Dr Masika Sophie, and Dr Mwenda Mbaka. Learn more about the specific skill-sets and expertise they bring to our regranting process here.
